The messages, the member list, the presence indicators and your own membership are simulated: they are generated in the page to show what the real thing looks like, and nothing you do here is sent anywhere or stored on the server. What is live and what is simulated

Live: the public communities on this instance and their channels, read from the same API the directory uses.

Simulated: messages, member lists, presence, and joining or leaving a community. Trying a membership changes the demo, not the instance.

Voice, video and live messaging are not part of the demo. The features page describes what is available today and what is still being built.

Connect to a real instance

The demo is a picture of the product. A real instance is where the product is: your account, your communities, your messages, and people who answer when you write to them.

Open the app on this instance and sign in or register, if it allows registration.
Find a community in the public directory and open it in the app.
Run your own instance if you would rather not use anyone else's.
